5 Tips for Getting Unstuck

"When Nothing Goes Right...Go Left" - Unknown

Feeling 'stuck' is simply a state of in-action. Do you feel 'stuck' in your job? Leave. Do you feel 'stuck' with your Personal Growth? Read a book. Do you feel 'stuck' in your business? Find a new strategy. There are hundreds of actions you can take, in order to get unstuck. They don't have to be so 'dramatic', and you can always take at least one action, to help you get unstuck.

At it's most basic, there is only one thing we need to do, to get unstuck...Take Action. That's it. There is no magic pill. You feel stuck in your relationship? Start a new dialogue with your partner. Express how you feel, explore solutions together, get counseling, or decide to go your separate ways. Whatever you decide, take some action that leads you closer to your outcome.

Easy to say, harder to do. Here a few little tips, to help us take that first action step towards getting unstuck..

Tip#1 – Know Your Triggers - How have you got stuck before? What has been the 'trigger' that leads you to the deep, dark chasm of in-action? Is it being reprimanded from a boss, husband or wife, for something we did wrong? Is it missing the KPI? Not achieve your fitness goal? Missing out on the promotion? Being rejected from someone of authority? Look back on your life, at those moments where you felt totally helpless, and notice if there is a recurring trigger. With that new awareness, you can take steps to avoid it.

Tip#2 - Change Your Routine - Being stuck can feel like you're running on a hamster wheel. Around and around it goes, same same, but not different. If that's the case, change your routine. Go to the gym, a walk around the park, a swim in the pool, drive a different way to work, try a new sport. Anything!! Just try something different from your day-to-day routine, and you will find new things to excite & motivate you.

Tip#3 - Pain or Pleasure - Getting unstuck is also about finding motivation, and there are only two forces of motivation that we can leverage from, to take action. One is Pain - for example, you want to lose weight? Take a photo of yourself, standing in your underwear. See all that fat? That's painful, and will most likely result in some kind of motivation to get you to the gym. Alternatively, treat yourself to some pleasure when you achieve your goal. Perhaps a little holiday away if you achieve your KPI's 3 months in a row. Look at ways that you can create pain (consequences) and pleasure (joy), to keep you unstuck and moving forward.

Tip#4 - Buddy System - An easy way to help keep you accountable towards continued action and moving forward, is to share your goal and action plan with a buddy. This can be a friend, colleague, spouse or partner. A daily or weekly call, to check on your progress, and ensure you're on track, and not stuck.

Tip#5 - Just Do it - There is no substitute for Action. Feeling lazy...get up. Don't feel like going to the gym...go anyway. Want to snooze a little longer...set the alarm on the other side of the room. A rolling stone gathers no moss, so keep on moving, one step at a time, one day at a time, and you will continually edge closer to your goals.
